Project Overview

Bumblebee Café is a cozy, imagined café concept rooted in the warmth of small-town community and the beauty of slow, intentional living. I created this hypothetical brand to explore how thoughtful design can bring personality and depth to a simple food concept. From brand strategy to digital execution, this project reflects my ability to craft cohesive, emotionally resonant visuals that feel as good as they look.

Presentation slides with branding guidelines including brand colors navy and dark honey, icons of bees, and design rules for symbol size, font size, and color utilization.
Set of presentation slides for Bumblebee Cafe, featuring sections on values, color scheme, logo inspiration, brand reminders, and brand objectives. The slides have a dark navy blue background with orange honeycomb accents and white text, along with small bee icons.
Multiple coffee cups with labeled designs, some with honeycomb pattern and bee logo, others with honeycomb pattern and bee illustration, on a dark surface.
A round loaf of bread with a dark crust and a diamond-shaped pattern on top, placed on white parchment paper with blue bee illustrations.

The Challenge

The concept behind Bumblebee Café centered around modern simplicity grounded in warmth. The challenge was to avoid common “cutesy café” tropes and instead create a brand that felt mature, minimal, and fresh.

How do you visually communicate quiet confidence, cozy rituals, and community through digital and physical touchpoints, without over-designing it?

Solution

I created a stripped-back brand identity using a geometric bee icon, a bold all-caps wordmark in Anonymous Pro, and a warm, modern color palette of navy, beige, and dark orange. This gave the café a recognizable but understated identity that could scale easily across digital and print.

The website design reflects the same restraint, ample white space, modular layouts, and clean type hierarchy make it both functional and delightful. Paired with social content built around food photography and witty, short copy, the brand evokes charm without excess.

Digital and print marketing materials for Bumblebee Cafe, including a website homepage, a story about their honey-based products, and an FAQ section with icons indicating no artificial flavors, preservatives, or gluten.
Two overlapping promotional flyers for a cafe, featuring a map of the United States, coffee and pastry images, and text inviting viewers to find buzzing cafes nearby.
Multiple smartphone screens displaying bakery bakery website and social media posts for baked goods, sourdough bread, and cookies, arranged on a light gray surface.
Collection of digital posters for a bakery and cafe, showcasing coffee drinks, baked goods, menu, and hours of operation.
Multiple smartphones displaying bakery and coffee shop promotional images and menus, featuring croissants, sourdough bread, cinnamon rolls, and coffee, on a light gray background.

Reflection

Though fictional, this project demonstrates how an approach branding from a systems perspective. Bumblebee Café wasn’t just about a logo, it was about crafting an identity that speaks softly but leaves a lasting impression. The minimalist approach created room for storytelling: through materials, colors, and type. This case study shows my ability to create a brand that feels real, welcoming, and ready to launch.
