Project Overview

The Flying Pickle is the largest indoor pickleball facility west of the Mississippi. With a 50,000-square-foot venue and no existing brand presence, they needed a digital experience that felt as bold and high-energy as their space. I was brought in to design their website and social media assets, translating a brand-new identity into a cohesive, engaging digital presence

Collection of branding guidelines and presentation slides for 'The Flying Pickle' logo, featuring color palettes, logo lockups, typography, and design elements on black and white backgrounds.
Three digital screens displaying promotional content for The Flying Pickle, including workshop sign-up information, pickleball gear sale, and membership benefits information, set against a light gray background.

The Challenge

  • Brand Cohesion: Developing a cohesive and vibrant brand identity that could be applied consistently across diverse platforms, including signage, murals, the website, and social media.

  • Website Design & Functionality: Designing a custom website that captured the brand's playful, energetic vibe while offering functionality like court reservations and event scheduling.

  • Wayfinding System: Creating a wayfinding system for a large facility, which needed to be both intuitive and visually engaging, integrating elements like murals and immersive design features.

  • Spatial Design & Court Layout: Designing courts and custom signage that aligned with the brand and enhanced the visitor experience, all while adhering to functional needs.

  • Brand Integration: Ensuring that the brand was present in all aspects, from custom merchandise to the interior environment, including living moss walls and dimensional signage.

Solution

Solution

A multi-layered approach that combined strategy and creativity. We started with a bold, playful brand identity, weaving it into every aspect of the facility’s design and digital presence. The website, built on Squarespace, became the digital hub for community engagement, event sign-ups, and online store integration. Inside the facility and on social media, we delivered everything from large-format graphics and custom court designs to wayfinding systems, creating a seamless experience for visitors.

Digital display screen showing promotional information about a private event for 'The Flying Pickle,' with options for catering, pickleball courts, and other event services, featuring black and white text with a lime green highlight.
Three social media posts advertising pickleball classes, memberships, and tournaments. The first post promotes free classes on certain days. The second highlights lifetime membership benefits. The third advertises a pickleball tournament scheduled for September 12, 2023, with ticket prices.
Collection of promotional posters and flyers for pickleball events and classes, featuring bright green, navy blue, black, and grey colors with images of pickleballs, paddles, and a gymnasium, advertising tournaments, memberships, and classes.

Outcome

The Flying Pickle successfully launched their brand across web and social. The website became the hub for court bookings and event sign-ups, while the social content helped generate buzz, grow their community, and communicate their voice. Together, the digital touchpoints gave the space a strong foundation for growth and visibility.
